A woman in her fifties was run over and killed in the car park of a £21,000 a year all-boys boarding school as she returned to her car after watching the bonfire night celebrations.
The parent had been walking through the car park on the grounds of Sunningdale Boys School, Berkshire, at 7:50pm on Thursday when she was mowed down by a blue Ford Galaxy car.
The prep school, which charges £7,070 a term for boarders and £5,495 a term for day students, had just finished its annual bonfire night celebrations when the tragedy happened.
As spectators made their way back to their cars to return home the woman was hit by a vehicle and killed at the scene.
Headteacher Tom Dawson has described the incident as a "tragedy" and said pupils and parents had been very distressed.
The school has confirmed that the woman was a parent of one of the pupils at the school on Dry Arch Road.
One parent added: "It is a terrible tragedy which has affected everyone badly."
